Multi-cultural society conference in Akranes

Dear friends!
The Red Cross in Akranes is holding a conference on the 4th and 5th of November 2011 titled The multi-cultural society – challenges and benefits!
On the 5th November, Akranes will be celebrating the 5th anniversary of the Festival of Nations – West Iceland, which is part of its annual cultural festival (Vökudagur) during the first week of November. The theme this year of Vökudagur is Multi-culturism. At the end of the conference guests will have the chance to participate in the festival.
The Festival of Nations is an annual event, last year we had more then 25 booths introducing different cultures, food and projects related to multi-culturism. There was also an impressive entertainment programme of international dancing and singing. More than 100 volunteers of foreign and Icelandic origin worked hard to organise it and over 1,500 visitors attended.
Our mission now is to connect to as many people as possible who are interested in and developing a multicultural society, who would like to take part in this free conference.
The agenda is not finalised, but our proposed agenda is: Day 1. would concentrate on the ideologies behind immigration policies and government immigration policy matters in general with keynote speakers from overseas and Iceland. The second day will focus on the local community and the challenges multi-cultural societies face and the benefits multiculturalism can bring to Iceland and other countries.
